“You could try calling DOCS” – was the last recommendation that we received from a senior fertility specialist of a leading IVF clinic, when we were faced with our last failed IVF cycle. Married for 12 years, my husband and I went through 7 IVF cycles, 5 fertility specialist doctors, a ruptured ectopic pregnancy that very nearly ended my life and years of heartache and inner shame. We couldn’t believe after the years and years of doing IVF (and trying all other alternative treatments too) and desperately wanting to raise a family in a good marriage and home that we were faced with the prospect of being a childless couple. When we had exhausted all attempts at IVF, at our last appointment with the fertility specialist, we were informed there was nothing else that could be done. When we persisted that there must be another option, we were told “You could try calling DOCS”. It goes without saying, there are many precious angels who are victims of abuse and who desperately need loving homes, but does that mean the yearning to have your own children should be discarded?

Thankfully a dear friend recommended Denyse and the donor egg program (having had success with the program herself!). From the moment my husband and I walked into the offices of Dr. Bernstein and Denyse Asher, there was a warmth and sense of optimism and hope. A feeling we had not experienced in the many IVF clinics we visited over the years. Our initial appointment with Denyse was so positive and rather than hearing “no no no” with our chances of becoming parents, Denyse filled our sense of hope with “yes yes yes”. We also had thorough examinations and further tests with Dr. Bernstein (which had not been performed in our previous IVF cycles) and after a few brief months of preparation we were on the journey of our life and bound for Cape Town, South Africa. The program was so easy to follow, so thorough, so well prepared for every question we had that we knew we were being properly supported every step of the way. Nurse , Leesa and Jill from the clinic were always so kind and helpful in every way. The clinic in Cape Town was very professional and the doctor so understanding, upbeat and positive. The gratitude I feel to our special donor is so deep and which I will carry with me in my heart for the rest of my life. The result is that I am now 8 weeks pregnant with twins! What a blessing!! I never thought I would be so fortunate. We realise it is still early days in the pregnancy and things can still go wrong, but the confidence and renewed optimism for our life ahead has been restored. Thank you so so much Denyse and Dr. Bernstein!!
